The Texas City Story
The Texas City Story

As part of BP's commitment to transform Control-of-Work across its business, Texas City selected Petrotechnics to provide the solution. This major success story has so far delivered a complete transformation in how work gets delivered at the frontline, and has involved personnel throughout this major downstream operation. The aim of the project has not only been to change the way people work but also to change the way people think about work and working safely. The solution provided has been a robust approach involving people, process and technology combined with a change process, training, coaching and long-term customer support.

Texas City key facts:

  • 4,000 to 6,000 people work at the refinery every day
  • The site covers over 1,200 acres
  • Crude oil capacity reaches 460,000 barrels per day
  • The site provides 2.5% of all US domestic gasoline production.

Why control of work?

"We must provide a foundation over the next five to seven years so that whatever we do is sustainable in the long term. I see Control-of-Work as a particularly strong element of sustainability".

Colin MacLean, BP Business Unit Leader
